I happened upon Di Van Niekerk's book while seeking a new resource book on embroidery
techniques. The lovely cover invited me at once to take the book over to a quiet place in the
bookshop so that I could savor the beautiful photgraphs and review it for quality and
thoroughness of instructions. It met all of my perimeters and I purchased it. It has been
quite some time since I was last so inspired by a book of this nature. I immediately set out
to obtain the needles, similar ribbons and threads called for by each project and began my
journey into the art of ribbon and thread work following the excellent step-by-step directions
accompanied by excellent pictures and diagrams. I am myself a soft sculpture and beaded art
to wear artist. I have my own original pattern line. I have begun to incorporate many of the
techniques I learned in Di Van Niekerk's book into my mixed media soft sculpture work, and
have included these into my workshop classes and original pattern designs which are
distributed throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and beyond. I have introduced my
students to Di's book on ribbon embroidery and Stumpwork and have listed it and her website
in my pattern bibliography of resources.

My students have as result been smitten with this art
form and have immediately sought to obtain copies of Di's book for themselves. It is sad that
we here in the United States have no opportunity to see first hand Di's extensive line of
ribbons, threads and kits. I hope that these may somehow become available for us in the near
future. There's nothing like seeing the real thing in order to make purchases of just the
right color way. I have just ordered "Dreamscapes" and can not wait to see what new work
and creative ideas this next book will stimulate.
Thank you for sharing yourself, your talent and techniques with us.
