Review from Tone, Bittliten, Norway
Dear Renn,
I received the parcel yesterday and I just can't find the words that will
tell you how wonderful it is! I wish you lived closer to Norway so that I
could take lessons with you. Not having you here, I do hope I will manage to
work this out myself. I read in your newsletter that you will be going to
London next year to attend a show. Please tell me which one? Is it the
knitting and stitching show in October? Will you be giving lessons? I will
visit the "show" in Birmingham in February.

In Norway we don't have anything like your products. It is quite hard to
make Norwegians try something new and embroidering is not "modern". Here you
are "modern" only if you go to work outside home and leave the children in
the kindergarten from early morning to late evening. When I tell friends
that I left my job as a office manager in the community system to stay at
home with our children and now when they are 7 and 9 still not want to go
back to that kind of work, they think I am "funny".... I started my little
business here at home 3 years ago and this last year I have increased the
sale by 75%. I give workshops and love to meet others that are interested in
embroidery.

Well I have to go now, but once again; thank you for the wonderful products
you make and for sending them to me. I do hope we will do deal with each
other for a long loooong time.

By the way, will it be possible to have your books translated to Norwegian?

We had some snow during the night and it is so nice to look through the
windows. Have a wonderful day.

Best wishes from Tone

Good day Di and Renn,

I have noticed that it is time for the Hobby-X again and I am looking
forward to this event so much.

I just would like to know if you and Di are going to have a stall
accommodation at the Dome this year.

Because I bought your newest book "Monogramme & Woorde" and would like you,
(if possible) to sign the book for me.

I just want to thank Di as well for this "brilliant" book. I really enjoy
your books and have learnt a lot through your eyes.

Have a nice day and looking forward to hear from you.

Kind Regards

Marietjie

Di's reply: Feb 09 at 23.16

Hi Marietjie
Good to hear from you. Yes, I will be at Hobby-X at Ribbonfield's stand on
the Saturday to sign books. I will also be at Metz Press stand to sign
books. Not sure of the times, but should be there from 11AM to about 3PM or
so on Saturday 6 March. My cell number is 082 4584 700 if you need to find
out where I am. If I don't hear the phone, just send a SMS and I will return
the call, as I will be checking my phone every now and then.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Love
Di

Subject: General

My husband bought me a couple of your books for my recent birthday. I have
multiple sclerosis, and gave up stitching about eight years ago. I am a bit
of a perfectionist when it comes to sewing, and I gave up altogether, rather
than turn out work I was not satisfied with. About a year ago an old school
friend got it touch with me through Friends Reunited. We haven't seen each
other for nearly 50 years, but we soon started chatting on-line, and she is
such a keen stitcher that she renewed my enthusiasm, so I have recently
tried again. I can't work for long as my hands are not always steady, but I
am learning to be patient with myself, and enjoy embroidering to the
standard I am now capable of. I just wanted to tell you how much your book
has inspired me. I haven't worked with ribbon before, and it's opened up a
completely new world for me. So thank you so much. You have no idea how much
happiness you, (and my friend) have brought back into my life. Best Wishes
Lesley

Dear Di It is with great pleasure that I receive your newsletters and am
able to keep updated with all your beautiful designs. If you remember I
moved to Australia, from Durban, just under 2 years ago and before we left,
visited your shop at the Waterfront. I am still amaized at the beauty of
your work. I have not seen anything as beautiful here in Perth and am glad
that I am able to order your products here in Australia, and actually afford
them. Since being here I have ordered your Box full of lessons 1 and 2, and
A perfect world print, which I am still waiting to collect from Apple
Galarey, Cherrie orders them for me from NSW. I am still busy with the first
project that I started from the box full of lessons, which I ordered just a
few months ago, and absolutely loved making the little dog! I am most
certainly looking forward to getting your Fairy book! When I read of the
priveledged ladies who have actually met you, I feel envious, and wishing at
the moment that I was going to be in Cape Town, to come along to some of the
lessons that you are offering free of charge. But since I am not able to do
that at the moment, how about adding a photo of yourself and others who have
worked with you, like Sareena Shaw. I would love to see you all, as well as
your staff on your web page! Until next time, happy stitiching! Virginia,

Subject: Flower Fairy Kits

Di

My mum left me a message last Wednesday to say the kits had arrived and she
was thrilled with them and would tell me more when she saw me.

I saw her yesterday (as it was mother's day here) and she is over the moon
about the kits. Her fingers are itching to start, she just loved the whole
kit and thought the hand painted ribbons where fantastic. She asked me to
thank you for her gift of ribbons, she loved them.

I can see another Flower Fairy epidemic starting, I think my dad is going to
have to build an extension for wall space.

Thanks for all your help and looking forward to doing business with you
again in the future.

Take care

Dear Di

Having just looked at your website and seen the New Fairy Book that you
are publishing I thought - WOW another fantastically beautiful book - WOW
again, and from what I have seen on the website it looks so interesting
as are ALL your products, and I cannot wait to get my copy of the book
and purchase the fairy kits to embroider. They are so special.

I think we are so privileged to have a person who God has given so much
talent, patience and inspiration to and who is so willing to share it all
with us. As I have always said, there must be a special sewing room in
heaven (with amount of sewing I still have left to do,) where we are all
going to sit and natter and catch up with ourselves and I am sure God will
smile and say "Well here are no idle hands".

Di, to you and your team, well done again. Everytime I order something
from you (only wish I lived in Cape Town near you) it is like Christmas
all over. Your products and the quality of the ribbons and fabrics are
outstanding, the wonderful service you give is so much appreciated.

I feel priviledged to share all these years of sewing with you and may we
continue for many, many, many more years to come.

Thanks again

Subject: Perfect World book

Hi

"Perfect world is a perfect project for beginners and advance embroiderers.
(I am self taught). I loved every moment of the project. The illustrations
are so clear and easy to follow. I am not good at stumpwork, and have made
some changes, but you can certainly follow every
detail in the book with ease and do the stumpwork.

I changed some pictures to suit my style of embroidery. The nice thing about
the project is that you can give it your own personal touches
without destorying the original beauty and still get a great result. I am
so pleased with the finished article. Please keep them coming."

I have loads of ribbon left which I can use for othr projects. Thank you.

I have the first two DVD's and the printed sampler so will get started on
the next picture soon.

Dear Renn

I have long admired these little fairies in reading books and was so
delighted to see them "come alive" on your website
....I have a granddaughter, aged 9, who loves fairies, and her mother is
teaching her hand quilting, piecing and handwork. In fact, her older
brother who is 11, really "into" computers and sports, and was studying the
history of embroidery in one of his home schooling classes, has tried
embroidery all on his own. Hand stitching is part of our family. So I am
most excited to share this beautiful work you do with them....

Thank you for being such a "caring" vendor, as well.

Have a great day.

there was a Christmas design in it. I had forgotten about that! Di does
lovely work and the best thing about her books is the detailed photos. I

Subject: A letter from West-Ghana

Subject: Flower Fairy book

With great anticipation I hastily cut the package open that contained the
new Flower Fairies book. It felt like a long-lost friend that has finally
come home when I took the book into my hands. Di, you've done it again! A
winner . and I have not even opened the front cover. I absolutely love the
type of paper finish your book covers have and this book looked simply
amasing! Life came to a standstill for me as I took the book and went to sit
in my recliner. What a treat! The close-up photos with such clarity and
detail, a wonderful stitch gallery in colour, the most informative 'Hints
and Tips' pages and clear descriptive 'Method' sections had me totally
spellbound. Which fairy is prettier than another? There is no comparison as
each project is totally unique. The Periwinkle Fairy has a truly royal shirt
and a brand new way of embroidering the leaves; The Red Clover Fairy's dress
looks so soft to the touch and the red clover flowers are truly awesome; I
simply loved the smooth and silky effect of the long and short stitches of
the Black Medick Fairies; Oh, how wispy and flowing the organza dress of the
Stork's-Bill Fairy and life-like the grasshopper appeared; and last, but not
least, the White Clover Fairy with hair so real, you can almost see somebody
that somebody has just run a comb through it! This book is a feast for
hungry eyes and contains ingredients to feed an enquiring mind. Stump work
at its best and layering of materials with striking effect. Each fairy's
shimmering wings is absolutely perfect and the flowers and leaves - ready to
be picked! Thank you, Di, for sharing your knowledge and making embroidery
an exciting and challenging hobby. Renn, thank you too for the professional
manner in which you keep one up-to-date with an order. Thank you, also, to
the people working in the background and are not always called by name. Know
that you are all appreciated for the tasks you fulfil. Di, this comes with
much love and admiration to a great person. You are cherished!

Subject: Nuwe borduur slaaf

Hi Di en al die ander begaafde dames
Ek is tans besig met my eerste projek. Ek geniet dit vreeslik. Wat so maklik lyk as Rabia ( my baie begaafde leermeesteres) dit doen, vat my gewoonlik 4 keer so lank.

Dear Renn and Di,

I wanted to tell you that the package arrived on Friday May 15th. I picked
it up at the post office on Monday May 18th. I opened the package and felt
so happy
to see such an array of pretty colored silk ribbons and threads and the
painted canvas is GORGEOUS. I am soooooooooo excited to get started on this
project. Thank you so much for sending the red topiary tree as a little
bonus. I think that was generous of you all. Thanks for your time,
creativity and effort.

Warm regards,

Review from Cathy, Peep In, Official Stockist in Plettenberg Bay
Completing the "Bottom's Up" design from your new Dreamscapes book has
become an obsession and I find myself rushing through any other work which
has to be done so that I can continue to embroider. I've found the book
thoroughly inspirational and not at all difficult. Even though the Bottoms
Up design seems to be for experienced embroiderers I have not found this to
be the case at all, and would recommend it for beginners as well. Waiting in
anticipation for the next book ..... Keep it up Di !!

I am absolutely captivated by the Dreamscapes book - it is like my journal
that I cannot put down! I have just finished the Bottom's Up design and I
cannot explain what it has done to me! It's stretched my capabilities and
taken me further than I have ever gone with my embroidery! The Dreamscapes
book has helped me immensely! I have been on this wonderful journey - I am
finding it hard to explain - I have been sewing non- stop and have loved
every minute of it! Thank you Di - you have brought out a side of me I never
knew existed.

I received my Fairy Book, printed fabrics and ribbons from you yesterday,
Jan. 23!!!! You posted it, I believe on Jan. 17. Wow, was I surprised that
it arrived so soon.

I have not started reading the book nor sewing anything yet, but wanted to
give you my "first impression".

The book is beautiful, beautiful and the printed fabrics as well. Love the
quality of the fabric. I almost hesitate to do any sewing on them for fear I
will not do them justice. However, when I paged thru the book, I know there
is no reason for me not to either know how to embellish them or how to do
any of the stitching.

Your photography is very clear and beautiful. Such a pleasure to just look
at. I have been a sewing teacher in the past, written instructions and
patterns. It is difficult to write instructions so that they are relatable
to everyone; complete, clear and concise. I have a huge library of at
least 300 books relating to every phase of stitchery imaginable, and I
think that this book is truly the very best.

These little fairies just seem so very realistic because of the photography,
like it wouldn't surprise me to see one perched on my arm! Thanks ever so
much. You and your fairies are part of my life now......at least if I am
not working on these projects every day, I will look at them when I enter
my sewing room, and smiile and feel good. Can't wait to share them with my
granddaughters...

Have a great day....

Subject: FAIRY BOOK

Hi there

Just wanted to say that the Fairy book is wonderful. You can see how much
work has gone into this and the best part is that it is nice and thick so
one can ponder over the book for ages.

It is very informative, has clear concise instructions and great easy to
look at pictures.
This book is ideal for the beginner, intermediate and advanced embroider and
can be used as a great learning tool.

I am very impressed and every teacher in the country should have this book
on her shelf.

Di, a fabulous book and a job well done.

I look forward, as usual, to the next book.

Congratulations

Dear Di

Thank you so so much for the beautiful Fairy Book and the kits.
Well, well, there are no words to describe how beautiful it is - not only
in pictures, but the explicit instructions and methods are wonderful even
for an "old" sewer like me. I so enjoyed browsing through it and cannot
wait to get started on one of the kits. Well done Di, yet another
beautiful and excellent product you have put together.

I wish you and your family and your whole team a very Blessed and
Prosperous 2009. Thank you for your friendship and excellent service
always and thank you for being the wonderful inspiration you are to me.

God Bless

Love

Subject: Shops

I visited your shop at the Waterfront yesterday to treat myself to your Bottoms Up design as I have the book and have been biding my time to get the design on the fabric and ribbons. I want to say that your lady at the Waterfront is a credit to you, so helpful and friendly as she was on the phone over the weekend when I spoke to her. I have previously been to your shop before you moved and your lady then was also so friendly, don't know if that was Alveda as well. It makes such a difference to one's shopping experience.

As I am sure you are often told, all your embroideries are just so beautiful, I could spend hours just looking at them.

As a member of the Cape Embroiderers' Guild your copyright letter was forwarded to me by Tricia Elvin-Jensen and I really feel sad for you that you have been violated in this way. For someone to do what the Pretoria photocopy shop has done is unbelievable especially with you being in the same country. I look forward to hearing about the outcome of your legal action.

Does Serena Shaw have an email address? If so, I wonder if you would forward it to me, obviously you may check with her first. She is a cousin of my husband, John Lightfoot. We met up with her when we first came to Cape Town in 1969 and knew her as Serena Bezuidenhout but when they moved up country we lost contact. Some time ago you put me in touch with her as I wanted a copy of her Pucketty Farm book and she straight away recognized our name. I also followed the series in the Country Life magazines but of course did not know who she was then!

In the meantime, take care and try and enjoy the festive season.

Hi Renn:

I got my wonderful package last week about Wednesday. I love, love, love the
ribbons! They are beautiful! This will be my first stumpwork project. I plan
to submit it at our state fair next October. I will be sure to have
information available for others who want to contact you for the book and
supplies. I know (if I do it well) it will be swooned over many times!

Thanks so much for your vigilence to ensure I get the order- your customer

Hello Renn and Di, I have just put my order through and just can\'t wait to
receive it. I work from home and am putting extra hours as of today to be
certain I can free at least one day to start on it when it arrives as I know
I will not be able to stop myself from starting this project once the kit
gets here. I have never sewn or embroidered anything in my life so it is a
whole newworld that you have opened for me with your wonderfull designs. My
younger girls are already glued to your first Ribbon and stumpwork book,
I\'ll make sure they too learn to occupy themselves with needlework while
watching tv. Very warm regards from France to both of you and your families.

I am so pleased to see all the new and improved features of your website! It
has been and no doubt will continue to be, an exciting experience each time
I access the website. Certainly am hoping that means greater worldwide
distribution of your wonderful kits for the books! Can\'t wait for Flower
Fairies - have pre-ordered through Amazon! Kind regards, Susan

You are correct, Renn, I pushed the wrong button. Thank you for
asking...most people would not take such care as you do and I appreciate
your careful watch. Please make the substitution for me. I was ordering
the thread and ribbon packs because they are all color coordinated. I was
just going to order one of everything in both ribbons and threads, but I
figured that would require more typing and margin for error. I think the
color selections that are in the packs that I ordered may get me through the
work that I need to do for my book...should I get a contract.
Thanks again, Renn.

I find that doing business with you is as much of a pleasure as Di's books
are delightful to look at. I believe that you both must be very nice
people. I look forward to talking with you again and thanks for keeping me
updated.

Happy New Year to both of you, Di and Renn. I was very happy to find your
package waiting for me this morning and I have just finished tearing into it
with as much excitement as a dragon adding to her treasure. The Fower
Fairies is a beautiful book and as always, Di, your work is impeccable and
lovely. Each fairy is adorable and I find that it is impossible for me to
pick a favorite. I am also very pleased with the beautiful ribbons and
threads. I know I will enjoy the contents of this package for a long time.

Thank you for all the follow up that you two practice in the care and
keeping of your purchasers. The fiber art world may be deemed delicate by
some, yet we are a robust group of enthusiasts who are tied together with
our love of color, texture, and creativity. We need to care for each other.

Happy stitching,

Dear Di and Team,

Greetings from the frigid temperatures of Colorado! I just wanted to say
thank you for sharing your talents with the world.

I have completed the One-on-One DVD workshops sampler and it’s so beautiful
it takes my breath away. I can’t believe I did this. I’ve been showing it
off to friends and family and watch them delight over the little critters
and life-like flowers. The many stolen moments and borrowed time to work on
this project gave me such peace and I am grateful to have found you.

I’ve purchased your beautiful books from Amazon (Flower Fairies, Monograms,
and Perfect World) and I have the Red Clover Fairy kit that I have started
on next. It is a bright spot in my day when I can work on it, if only for a
few minutes at a time. Thank you again.

Looking forward to receiving my next order.

Wishing you all the best of health and happiness in the new year.
Yours sincerely,
Eileen from Colorado, USA

Hi Renn,
I received my order yesterday. Actually, it arrived on Wed. but I wasn't
home when the postman delivered it so I had to go to the post office the
following day (yesterday) to get it.
The two panels are wonderful. I'm anxious to get started on them.
I also now have a "standard" birthday and Christmas present request for my
husband --- more panels. This is a great thing as he never knows what to
get me.
Thanks so much for the great service I received from you. Feel free to use
my comments.
Di's designs are beautiful. Please tell her to keep spreading the
creativity.
My appreciation,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of the detail and
descriptions you share in your books. I am self-taught and absolutely
love my hobby. There aren't many opportunities to learn ribbon
embroidery in the US (at least not where I have lived), so you have
enabled me to pursue my hobby with your wonderful pictures, diagrams
and descriptions. I love your books and your ribbon and threads are
just gorgeous - the best I've seen!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Have a wonderful, festive
holiday season!

Groete

Subject: Books

Hi Renn, thanks for taking the time to reply to my mail. I've gone through
the website thoroughly, and it's so beautiful.
I'm going to order the book you recommended and a few of the "little gem"
projects - they are just too cute for words.
I just so wish, i had more time. I love quilting as well, and saw the crazy
quilting ideas also.
I've also subscribed to the monthly newsletter, which will keep me up to
date. Wish Di was in Jhb, instead of the Cape - haha...
but the site makes it possible to obtain the products in no time.
Can't wait to get my goodies, i'll put in an order today, and will be a
regular visitor!!!
Thanks again,
kind regards

Hi, I have just received my "parcel"! Thank you so much for the excellent

the two presents! Wow

Can't wait for the children to go back to school! Definitely will come and
visit you with my next visit to Cape Town!
Thanks again! I ordered the threads yesterday! Can't Wait.
